ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -A fan seated behind the first-base dugout was injured by a thrown bat in the first inning of the Baltimore Orioles' game at Tampa Bay.

Baltimore leadoff man Brian Roberts lost control of his bat during a swing and it flew into the stands Saturday, hitting the guest. Stadium medical personal treated the fan in the seating area, and then used a back board to take the fan for treatment.

It is the second time in just over two weeks that a fan was injured by a flung bat at Tropicana Field. The barrel of a broken bat used by the New York Yankees' Robinson Cano went into stands on his single July 30.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
