08/12/2009 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Racetracks are maneuvering with the idea that they can get two or more of the leading thoroughbreds to face each other in the near future. Fair Grounds and Gulfstream Park have already issued opportunities for the horse owners.

The matchup everyone wants is between Preakness Stakes and Haskell champion Rachel Alexandra and Eclipse Award winner Zenyatta. While Zenyatta is almost certain to pop-up in a Breeders' Cup race at Santa Anita Park in November, Jess Jackson has emphatically stated that 'Rachel' will not race on any synthetic track such as Santa Anita.

In an effort to get these two females to race against one another, the Fair Grounds in New Orleans has written a stakes race, yet unnamed, for December 19. The race has a tentative purse of $100,000 and would be conducted over 1 1/8 miles on a dirt surface.

"Horse racing fans desire to see Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta race against one another, and we're no different," said Fair Grounds vice president and general manager Eric Halstrom. "By positioning this new race six weeks after the Breeders' Cup World Championships and three weeks after Churchill Downs' Clark and Falls City Handicaps, it gives all parties involved something to consider and opens the door for further discussions. Anything further at this point would be premature and circumstances could be different in four months, but this new race gives us an option to dream."

It's unlikely that Zenyatta will race outside of California before the Breeders' Cup and it would take a lot of coaxing to have her race after the World Championships.

'Rachel's connection have created a reality show concerning her race schedule. Will she or won't she face fillies again or will she remain racing versus the boys?

"Jess Jackson, Barbara (Banke), John Moynihan, myself and (assistant) Scott (Blasi) decided to go ahead nominate her to five races and let her train for a couple of weeks," said Steve Asmussen, trainer of Rachel Alexandra. We'll do what we think is best for 'Rachel'. She is the queen right now and we are very proud of what she's done."

Four races at Saratoga are among the possibilities being considered for Rachel Alexandra's next start. The $600,000 Alabama for three-year-old fillies on August 22, the $400,000 Personal Ensign against fillies and mares on August 30, the $1 million Travers for three-year-olds on August 29, the $500,000 Woodward for three-year-olds and up on September 5 and the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Philadelphia Park are the races under consideration.

Zenyatta could pop up in the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar on September 6 or the Lady's Secret at Santa Anita three weeks later.

Meanwhile, Gulfstream Park announced on Wednesday that it will waive nomination fees for Mine That Bird, Rachel Alexandra, Summer Bird and Quality Road to the 2010 Donn Handicap.

"Regardless of whether or not these four superstars meet in the Travers, we want them to have the opportunity of meeting in the biggest race for older horses this winter," said Racing Operations Manager Bernie Hettel.

Mine That Bird is a gelding and will keep racing for several years, Quality Road returned recently to the races with a solid win at Saratoga in the Amsterdam and Summer Bird was second to 'Rachel' in the Haskell Invitational.

Elite 8 NCAA Tournament Betting at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com

In what should be an outstanding Saturday of March Madness betting action, the top four teams in the South and West Regions square off in what should be extremely close match-ups. Three of the four teams are coming off extremely close games on Thursday evening, only UCLA won semi comfortably over Pitt 64-55.

Ohio State is coming off their second game in a row where in all reality they should have lost. Of course that doesn’t matter now since the name of the game is “survive and advance” but as the tournament continues, they can’t afford to keep getting down to their opponents early. Kansas also avoided a scare by holding off a scrappy Southern Illinois squad. In the third thrilling game of the evening Memphis pulled off the minor upset (+3.5) despite being the higher seed to Texas A&M.

Although the spreads are fairly small for Saturday’s games, MySportsbook.com continue to bet against the underdogs. Despite OSU’s two scares, 86% of the “betting public” feels the Buckeyes (-1.5) have what it takes to make the Final Four. In fact, so much of the early money is on OSU that the line has already moved from -1 to -1.5. In the second game of the doubleheader, Kansas and their high-powered offense are 2 point favorites as they take on UCLA and their effective defense. About 63% of the early money thus far is once again backing the favorites. If those percentages stay that high, don’t be surprised if this line moves as well. If you like Kansas (-2) you might want to jump on it early.

Memphis vs. Ohio State

Both squads were involved in thrillers on Thursday evening and should come out fired up. OSU can ill afford to get behind early like they did versus their previous two opponents (Xavier, Tennessee). Greg Oden needs to stay out of foul trouble; the Buckeyes are a completely different team when he is on the court. Memphis definitely has the athleticism and length to match-up with OSU. Of Memphis’ five leading minute earners, the shortest of the bunch is 6’5”. Each team has a very effective defense; Memphis surrenders 62.3 PPG whereas the Buckeyes give up only 61 PPG. With those type of numbers, it isn’t surprising that Memphis covered the UNDER almost 69% of the time this season. As a favorite, OSU has covered the UNDER almost 66% of the time over the last three seasons. The major concern for Memphis which is magnifies this time of the year is their brutal foul shooting (62%). This season, OSU is 17-11 ATS versus teams with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in all tournament games. Memphis has been an extremely reliable cover in tournament play in recent years with a 23-8 ATS record over the last three seasons.

UCLA vs. Kansas

In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, UCLA will play in a role which they are very unfamiliar with that of the underdog. Only twice this season have they been getting points from the handicappers and both times they covered. Over the last three seasons UCLA is a reliable 23-7 ATS in this unfamiliar role. UCLA has not fared well against Big 12 opponents recently going 1-7 ATS since 1997. Giving up only 59.6 PPG, UCLA will definitely look to do what they do best: keep this game as low scoring as possible. Their defense has been especially tough during the tournament. UCLA opponents have been able to muster up only 48.7 PPG while shooting a combined 34.5% from the field. UCLA definitely has a challenge at hand with a Kansas team that is capable of putting points on the board in bunches. As a team, they average 79 PPG and shoot an impressive 49.6% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc. During the tournament Kansas has been “lights out” from the field having shot 56.2%.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
